Happy with a Stalemate. FICS W-2, D-2, L-2

ToddvsKBurns20080721.pgn

I was going for 3-0 for the day, but ended with a draw. This was a good game, I played my usual Queen's pawn opening, which he turned into a Queen's Gambit Declined, then we went a little off the beaten path I think. He ended up taking my c-pawn after all, but then defended it with a ferociousness I'd never seen! He eventually went up material with some nice tactics, and a particularly nice skewer that won him a rook. Bummer. He deserved the win but I found a way to lure him into a stalemate, and he took the bait. This game will make for good post-mortem fodder...which I'll do a little later. It is too bad I missed 14.Bh6 winning the Exchange, which may have turned the tide. Oh well, another position for my puzzle library. :-)

I'm not sure what you mean with "he deserved the win".

From a lost position a stalemate can be the best you can get. He did some good things, but who knows what would have happend if you didn't overlook that 14th move? He should have seen that one as well as not allowing you to get a stalemate!

Nice game, don't forget to do post mortems on all your games (note to self: I should make sure that I play and record them in the first place!)

In your list with links you mention a page for creating chess diagrams. I have taken a look at it, but for now I prefer http://chessup.net, I found that one on http://rlpchessblog.blogspot.com/, who gave us some air time recently on his blog.

If you want to find out about your opening I suggest using chessbase or go to http://www.shredderchess.com/ Here you can find, among other things an online opening database.

Yeah I guess you're right, if he walked into stalemate then he deserved it.
Hey thanks for telling me about the other diagram site, I just checked it out and like it too. I'll link to it.
You know, I was doing post mortems on all of them, now I've gotten lazy and started just running them through Fritz to see what he has to say...but that doesn't help me learn. I'll definitely do post-mortems on those three games from yesterday and post my thoughts.
Fritz has a lot of openings info so I'm good there. :-)

Chesslore has it that you should first do your own post mortems. Do them relatively fast after the game, so you'll still know what the ideas where.

Only then look at the annofritzations and try to find out where and why you diversed.

For readability you could try to see if you could put your annotations in the ChessFlash window instead of underneath. This may be a personal preference of mine, but the tought behind it is that I, as reader, don't have to scroll back and forth to the diagram and only have to scroll trough in the ChessFlash window.

Good Luck!

Hey that's a good idea about the annotations! I guess I'd just put them in the .pgn file on my computer before I load it onto chessflash? I'll try it!
Yeah I know I should do the post-mortems before Fritz but I was just feeling lazy. One of those days. ;-)
